CAA Supports Girls in Aviation Day

Girls in Aviation Day is an international awareness day led by Women in Aviation International (WAI). The day is celebrated by WAI’s global network, which set out a day of activities for young girls across the world, including in the UK. This provides an incredible opportunity for girls to meet people from across the industry, see planes up close and learn more about aviation. Importantly, these activities encourage girls to consider interests in aviation, who would otherwise not have, as well as allow girls, already interested in aviation, to explore and pursue their interests in this field. 

Continuing the CAA’s commitment to supporting women in aviation and given the importance of supporting young girls to pursue interests in STEM, we are extremely proud to recognise this day by sharing stories from our own colleagues and stakeholders.

2019

On a recent visit to Millais School in Horsham, members of the CAA International Group and Future Safety presented at a Girls in Aviation Day to a group of Year 11 students on the subject of aviation career paths and inspiring female aviators. 

The girls were provided with information about the sector, as well as given the chance to ask questions around the subject. 

The visit was part of the CAA’s continuing aspiration to inspire and educate future generations in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through the STEM Programme – an educational provider supported by the government, charities, and several employers. 

Offering a wide variety of interactive activities within schools, colleges, STEM encourages young people to pursue careers in roles they could have previously seen as unobtainable or not even considered. And as only 1 in 8 engineering roles are occupied by women, we are proud to help STEM focus on the under representation of women in STEM professions by participating in events such as this.
